Bringing together All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) and Off-Highway Motorcycle (OHM) enthusiasts to enjoy, promote and protect responsible riding in the Chippewa National Forest and surrounding area.
WOODTICK WHEELERS ATV/OHM CLUB
EARLY WINTER 2010 CLUB UPDATE

A long, warm fall ended abruptly the second weekend in November. But a few hearty riders could still be seen on their ATVs and Side x Sides. And throughout the winter we’ll continue to build the club and work on trail projects that will benefit our members, local off-road riders and the Hackensack/Longville community.

Welcome Birch Lake Small Engine & Other New Members!
Joining the club in October and November are Marv and Karin Howard, Scott Koehnen, Jeremy and Charolette Hines, and Birch Lake Small Engine as a Business Sponsor. Be sure to stop by Birch Lake Small Engine and thank the Thompsons for joining, and give their store lots of business! We’re now at 199 Members!

City of Longville Signs Grant-In-Aid Resolution!
After 6 months and 15 meetings and public hearings, we now have resolutions signed by all the local governments within the Chippewa National Forest, including Turtle Lake Township, Pine Lake Township, Kego Township and the City of Longville.

The resolutions tell the county, which would be the funding sponsor on the DNR program, that they support the club’s proposal to create a Grant-In-Aid ATV Travel Route connecting Hackensack, Whipholt and Longville.

The Longville City Council held a public hearing November 17th. It was a very positive meeting. About 30 people came, including people from the county, DNR, the Sheriff's Department, our club, business owners and residents.

Longville has a unique situation because ATVs would be coming into town on county and state roads. The mayor and city council were able to get a lot of questions answered at an earlier meeting, and are in favor of the idea. After the public hearing, they passed the resolution giving us permission to proceed with the proposal to the county board. Our club members are now working with the city council to create an ordinance that allows ATVs into town, on a specific route, at proper speeds and so forth. This is a huge step forward for local ATV owners, and could be a real economic boost to Longville businesses.

The Hackensack city council is also in favor of the proposal and will likely sign the resolution at their next meeting. Birch Lake Township is still debating the issue, and we will continue to answer their questions in hopes of getting a resolution signed by them. If you have a home or cabin in Birch Lake Township, please call or email the township supervisors, encouraging them to pass the resolution. Without their resolution, the GIA route can't reach Hackensack and the county is unlikely to allow us to proceed.

The club has also met with the Longville Snowmobile Club and the Leech Lake Riders. Our proposed trail is the same route as the Grant-In-Aid snowmobile trail between Hack and Longville. Both snowmobile clubs are in full support of the proposal and are also signing resolutions and letters of support.

Congratulations To Tom Burch!
Tom ran a successful campaign and was elected Cass County Sheriff. He spoke at our annual meeting, and attended the Longville public hearing.
