Bringing together All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) and Off-Highway Motorcycle (OHM) enthusiasts to enjoy, promote and protect responsible riding in the Chippewa National Forest and surrounding area.

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO US!

The Woodtick Wheelers ATV/OHM Club received two great presents just in time for the holidays!

The first was the delivery of our custom-built 18 ft. enclosed trailer, purchased with a $10,000 grant from the Polaris T.R.A.I.L.S. program and additional funds from our DNR Volunteer Trail Ambassadors grant. We’ll use it for ATV Safety Training classes, club rides, Trail Ambassador rides, and as an ATV/OHM safety education trailer at community events.A big thanks to the Trailer Committee (John Dickerman, Mike Ebinger, Dick Buche, Lloyd Solarz) for their work, to John for ordering and taking delivery of the trailer, getting the decals added by Sign Pro and adding the ramp liner, and to Bruce and Colleen Bursch for donating material and labor to add flooring. We’ll be adding E-Track on the floor and walls to secure vehicles and the safety class ramps. The club also purchased an insurance policy that provides coverage for the trailer and general liability for club events. Be sure to come to the club’s spring meeting to see the trailer.  And Thanks Polaris!

The second holiday present is that on December 20th the Cass County Board of Commissioners, in a 5-0 vote, passed a resolution agreeing to sponsor our 35-mile Grant-In-Aid ATV Trail. Phase 1 is 13.5 miles and will go from Whipholt to Longville and through the city.

Thanks to the 20+ members who attended the many meetings on this project over the past 18 months. The county is surveying and designing the trail section that’s in the ROW of Cty 5 from Forest Road 2100 to Longville. The MN DNR will now begin its review of the trail plan, and help us move forward. Thanks to Josh Stevenson of the County Land Department, to Mary Straka, Dave Schotzko and Greg Snyder of the MN DNR, and to Carolyn Upton and Mitch Bouchonville of the Chippewa National Forest for their cooperation and help on this project.

The Brainerd Ice Fishing Extravaganza is just 4 weeks away, on January 21st. We need a few more people to ride their ATVs and help with safety and security. It’s a good time and earns our club $100/person! If you are interested, shoot an email to Chuck Andrews (chuck.andrews@yahoo.com) for all the details.

Watch for “Woodtick Wheelers ATV/OHM Club” on an Adopt-A-Highway sign on Hwy 200 near Whipholt. It’s great publicity for the club, right near the parking area for our future Grant-In-Aid Trail. Thanks to Jeff George for kick-starting this project, and to Dick Buche who will head up our first cleanup next spring.
