Woodtick Wheelers Fall 2013 Update

We had a fun year -- with great participation at our meetings, club rides, local parades and community events, DNR photo shoot & State Fair, ATVAM convention, trail-project meetings, and safety training classes. And we grew the club to 360 members!

Welcome new members!  33 new members joined the club this summer and fall, including our newest Business Members: Bear Pause Theater in Hackensack, Hilltop Sports in Hill City, and the Oakwood Insurance Agency in Watertown. Thanks to everyone for your support!

Woodtick Wheelers Named “Club of the Year”

On October 15th, the Woodtick Wheelers was named "Club Of The Year" at the NOHVCC Annual Conference. NOHVCC gave the club the award for all it's done to promote safe, responsible OHV recreation in Minnesota and for working hard on behalf of the organization. NOHVCC is a national service agency that promotes safe OHV riding, partners with clubs, associations and state/federal OHV program managers to build trails, and works hard across the country to “Create a positive future for OHV recreation.” Members Dave Halsey and Jan Rintamaki accepted the award at the conference on behalf of the entire club. Very exciting and unexpected. Congratulations Woodticks! For more information on NOHVCC, visit its web site at nohvcc.org.

20 Local Youths Attend ATV Safety Training Class at the WACC

On October 19th, the club’s DNR certified ATV Safety Instructors, working with the Cass County Sheriff’s Department, held a youth ATV safety training class at the Walker Area Community Center. Twenty kids ages 11 to 15 and their parents attended the class. Thanks to our instructors and to Deputy Bob Landreville for helping with this class!

Grant-In-Aid OHV Trail takes another step foward. Our proposal to create a Grant-In-Aid OHV Trail has reached Step 3 of the DNR 7-step process. That includes a regional review of all DNR departments, and a meeting at the Cass County Land Department. A big thanks to Josh Stevenson, Land Commissioner, for all his time and energy moving our trail project forward.

Are ATVs Allowed Into Longville?

We get that question a lot. There has been a lot of confusion on Longville’s policy regarding ATVs on city streets. Mike Ebinger checked with the mayor, who confirmed that Class I ATVs are not allowed in Longville, but Class II ATVs (Side by Sides) are allowed in town, on Cty Rd 5 into Longville, and allowed to cross State 84, but are not allowed on State 84. That means you can ride your Ranger, RZR or other SxS from Forest Road 2100, on the far right side of Cty 5 all the way to the One Stop. The city’s proposed ordinance to allow Class I ATVs and golf cars on city streets has been held up by the replacement of the bridge on State 84.

Not sure if you renewed club dues this year? There are about 30 members that haven’t renewed for 2013. Please submit your dues (Family $20, Individual $10) to P.O. Box 83, Hackensack, MN 56452. To find out if you have paid or not, send an email to club treasurer Mike Ebinger, at mebin@arvig.net.

Thanks to a Polaris Trails grant, the Woodtick Wheelers were able to purchase a Polaris Sportsman 110 EFI to be used for youth safety training.

Our club's ATV Safety Education Trailer was purchased with a $10,000 grant from the Polaris TRAILS program. Thousands of people have visited it at community events, where we passed out over 5,000 ATV maps, reg books and safety handouts. Thanks Polaris!
