Woodtick National Convention (2016 annual meeting)

The Woodtick National Convention (July 30th annual meeting) was a big success.

Sheriff Tom Burch stopped by to give us a road and trail update following major storms in the

area. Club updates were provided, over coffee and donuts from Woman Lake Lodge. We elected Scott Meyers and Ed Anderson as two new board members. (See full board list below.) We honored Dick Nytes as the “Woodtick of the Year.” We had a drawing for gift cards to 4 of our Biz Members. Woodrow the Woodtick danced to Brad Paisley’s song “Ticks.” And we sold $935 in club gear. This year’s ride to Huddle’s had to be cancelled due to so many trees down across that trail. Thanks to everyonewho helped set up the meeting and who attended this fun event.

Hackensack National Night Out -- About 50 people stopped by the club trailer. Thanks to the club members, Trail Ambassadors and Search & Rescue Team members who passed out trail maps, DNR reg books and ATV safety color books to local families. And thanks to Pam Shaw, who played the role of Woodrelli the Woodtick.

Next club ride -- Saturday August 13th at Spider Lake Trails. Meet at the main parking lot at 9 a.m. Guided rides provided. After the ride, club will be grilling brats for lunch! Free food and drink provided. Directions from Pine River: West on Cty Rd 2 for about 11 miles. Watch for a brown State Forest sign that says “Spider McKinley Road.” Turn left onto the Forest Road, go 1 mile to large parking lot.

partner with the Cass County Sheriff’s Deputies to put this class on. This ATV training class is

for operators ages 11-15. Students who are age 11 may take the complete course, but the

certificate will only become valid when they reach their 12th birthday. Adults who are new toATV riding are also encouraged to take the class. Class requirements: Prior to the class,

students must complete the DNR’s independent study, which is now on-line at http://offroad-

ed.com/minnesota/. There is a cost for the new on-line class. After completing the class, print out

your ATV/OHM Safety Voucher and bring that to the hands-on riding class. Those attending the

class must provide their own ATV, wear long pants, long-sleeve shirt, gloves and boots (no tennis

shoes) and bring a helmet with goggles or face shield. Parents must sign a parent release form,

and are encouraged to help with the class. Preregistration is required. To register, contact Lloyd

Solarz at 218-682-3775.

Woodticks donate to NWQ’s -- We don’t have a trail to maintain. But we do have money to help clubs that do. The North Woods Quads ATV Club maintains the awesome Hill City ATV Trail. They

have had to clean up that trail twice following big storms. They have used up their DNR Grant-In-Aid Trail funds for the year and are asking for help. The board voted to send them $200 to help out.
